Morag, I think those feathers are awesome. Just the right level of detail for me. It also kinda works because her dress is a little more simplistic, so it contrasts well with the complex/busy feathers.

And I wouldn't say cutesy and conventional is something they favour... they just seem to pick.. a lot... of it >.> Though last year (or the year prior?) the painting of the grenth avatar won first prize. That certainly wasnt cute

The upper right wing (her left, our right) where it folds looks a bit odd (as in different number/size of feathers) considering the number of wings on the underneath side. But that may just be me.

For the hair, what feels off is that it curves - I think it should be move of a sideways V - that is, a more clean separation of the hair.

Morag - that’s looking good. I love the concept and the pose. I think the wings look fine. I wonder how the hair would look if the lower left bit was lifted and had upwards motion (as the wing seems to)

Sura - I would very much like to see what you make of the awakening of a winter sylvari.

I'm assuming you mean the official GW ones from Halloween and not the ones from the Halloween workshop XD? I ended up declining my MKG, because the release form made me uncomfortable, and requested them to give it to GWGuru for a contest like they do with the costume codes, but I never heard back from them D: This was after they sent me an email that I didn't fill out the release form completely, so I'm sure if there's an issue, they would email you They're probably just running way behind or something, because I never did get a response about giving it to guru or to an email question I had sent when I first saw the release form :O

Sounds like a video? Or picture stills? Or maybe puppet design? As long as it's GW or GW2 related then you bet! Looking forward to hearing/seeing more

Wow, wonder what it was in the release form to make you decline it O_O
It would be totally awesome if Anet offered it for a workshop prize! I could drop Regina a message over MSN and ask about it tomorrow (uhh seeing that it's almost 2 am, I mean today), if you want...

Also, just wanted to put this out there, if you need help with the workshop, just shoot me a PM I should be receiving PM notice emails now.

As for my entry, I'll do my best to start on it and post some progress pics (and eventually get it done)... Everything is getting SO busy!

Haha, nothing ominous XD They wanted our SSN, too, and I just wasn't comfortable emailing that coupled with the other personal info (blaming paranoia on and baby hormones and years of human subject research data training since I know most people wouldn't care XD). The rules said prizes go to the next in line, but since I wasn't sure if they were referring to the honorable mentions and not just the grand prizes, that's why I asked if it was possible to give a MKG to guru instead of completely removing it from the available minis pool.

*leaping hug* thanks! I think it should be (knock on wood) smooth sailing from here on out Right now, just making sure I keep first post updated and answer any workshop admin questions! I bet the hardest part of the workshop from here on out will be tracking down all the winners who don't make it to the after party to give them their prizes XD

When is the official deadline for the competition? I know it was probably somewhere at the beginning, but I searched the text and didn't find it!
I have finished my first puppet for my puppet show-a ranger. I plan to make cutesy puppets of most of the classes and put them together in a (hopefully) funny puppet production. Is this type of thing OK? Nothing at all too serious! (it will be mildly like the Harry potter puppet pals)
Also, does this have to have something to do with wintersday? I have owned GW for less than a month and I haven't a clue what wintersday is! Is there some kind of winter quest/event that is always undertaken?
Anyway thanks for answering all of my noobish questions! These entries y'all have made are so beautiful and professional, I hope there is room for my felt crafting hobby!

@Dobby;

Preferebly it would involve wintersday. However, that might be hard if you've never experienced it yourself! I would highly advise you check out the wintersday articles on the official wiki so you can get some background information on what happens. In short;

Dwayna and Grenth (the gods of... well grenth is death. so dwayna is living? the Monk and Necro gods. ) battle it out every year to see who reigns champion over wintersday (someone wanna jump in an fill in that vague response? :S). For roughly two weeks, Lions Arch, Kamadan, Droknar's Forge, Tomb of the Primeval Kings, Eye of the North, and Ascalon City get decorated in a festive, snowy coat (Kind of like halloween, if you were able to attend that. except more holiday festive than halloweeny). I know its suppost to be politically correct for all, but shares many similarities with how americans celebrate christmas; there are gifts, candy canes, a large Wintersday tree, lights, ornaments, etc. etc.

Then, just like halloween, at the finale (Always december 31st; Wintersday!) everyone can get a nice holiday hat (which is different every year; usually there are 2 a year, but we have seen 4 in a year once!) for celebrating. Lots of fun and good cheer!

If you want a little more perspective from the players, I would check out all of the winners in the previous Wintersday Art Contests (if there isnt as link in the workshop's main page, you can search around the official guild wars site for them. should be under contests).

As far as I know the official deadline hasn't been announced yet; the workshop usually starts a little earlier than the official contest so we can get a jump start on things. Its generally somewhere in the 20's of december (20-29th, for the most part. that week) but things can always change! The workshop deadline is usually a little bit after Arenanet's deadline, so we wont know until they tell us

Also, the potter puppet pals are amazing. I highly anticipate seeing how this pans out! If you have any pictures of your puppets, complete or incomplete, and/or a script we would love to see them! I'm sure there are plenty of people who could help you edit your script so its the best it can be ^^

Hope that helps!

I, on the other hand, have had almost no internet access as of late. VERY intermittent periods for me. My desktop, for whatever reason, gets almost no wireless reception from my wireless USB stick (despite my laptop getting near perfect wifi from the same location) and my laptop is in getting fixed. So I havent had time to research into places, or look up references. My laptop 'may' get fixed by friday, but its looking more like monday.

Death By An Arrow beat me and pretty much summed up everything perfectly for you Thanks!

Only things I can think of to add is to make sure you read the first post in this thread (there's an entry form to fill out and then we'll add you and your progress gallery to the entry list so everyone can find what you're doing easily ) and have lots of fun

And also feel free to ask lots of questions! The workshop is here to help you grow as an artist

Morag - the hair is too much one piece. You need to break it into wavy sections; at least the lower part. You could probably get away with less feather detail, but it looks great to me.

This contest brings me more excitement over the holiday season than anything else. I'm loving the variety of entry genres.

Her hair seems to be heading in a different direction to the motion suggested by her body. Having said that, you might want to consider moving her hair behind the closest wing.

If any of you have some good, clear pictures of these two guys, that would be really helpful. I have been looking at Grenth on the wiki and he is always shadowy dark, mysterious, etc. It is actually really hard to try to convert him into a 1-1/2 inch puppet with cutesy features. I'm kinda ok with dwayna, just human+wings.
if either of these guys have specific accessories, then I really need to know. Accesories are what you use to specifically tell the puppets apart. Ranger = random woman in green dress(if it doesn't have the bow and arrow!)
Also, what classes would you guys like to see in the puppets? I am going to make 3 or 4 more main class puppets and I cannot make them all! Preferably ones with Really big obvious Accesories! I have already made the ranger and am working on the warrior!

What will happen if Dwayna and the Grenth both die. If the other puppets kill them off will I have to deal, with continuity errors from other stories? I can work around it, but I would preferably be able to kill the Grenth at least (he is a major creep, amiright?)

PS. pretty pretty please can you tell me how to change my profile pic (death by arrow's one is really great, I'm going to have one of Dobby!)-EDIT found it, now time for dobbiness!

You can certainly take your own spin on the story of grenth vs, dwayna. Whether or not they can die may be tricky, because they are technically gods. Their 'avatars', or servants, or whatever they're known as could very well be killed though!

Konig may be the best to answer what would happen if either god died though; hes a HUGE lore buff. I imagine something along the lines of a war

It might be good to make a dervish puppet! They have a very characteristic hood/armor and scythe. You could also make a mesmer with a masquerade ball-type face wear (be sure to make them purple/pink!). Really any profession can be distinctly told from another based solely on what kind of mask they wear, so its whatever characters fit your story

Hope that helps ^^

Fabulous! Thank you, Val Karye!

And a reminder: the workshop is accepting donations until the workshop deadline All amounts are welcome and appreciated. If you don't have much and still want to give something, consider adding to partial stacks or completing sets to the prizes in the "prize pool" (under awards).

It is really sad, I was initially going to make the puppets out of felt. I have finished the ranger puppet, but it is TOP HEAVY . I can no longer make them out of felt (my attempts for splints don't work either ) Now I guess I shall have to adapt and make them from paper.

Red face Finally got around to it :)

Hey, Thistle! I want to participate in the workshop!
Name: DobbyTheHouseElf
Idea for entry: Wintersday Puppet show!
Art form type: Video of puppets!
Progress Gallery Link: http://dobbythehouseelf101.deviantar...llery/33918784
Check out my gallery, I have some puppet designs in there. I'm particularly proud of the Warrior

Is it possible to make a donation?
I haven't got much, through all of my account I only have 8k and 1 level 19 character, so I don't have any good stuff yet, but I own a mini charr shaman that was given to me by a friend, and if it is worth anything for the prizes/prize pool i would like to donate it.
Of corse if it is actually worthless (it is ded) then I understand if you guys don't want it
